Team Time Trials are a competition. Two person teams begin 30 seconds from the next team and then race 27.3 miles against the clock for awards in 35 different categories. The time of the 2nd teammate to cross the finish line is recorded. There are 35 different age/gender categories offered across 3 ability divisions. The top times in each category will be recognized.

  • Time Trial Racers will be required to give an accurate prediction of their speed when they register so we can seed them by these times.

  • New Time Trial age, ability and gender groupings to match the latest competition demographics

  • Participation limits (maximum field sizes) in all events are in place to ensure safety of all participants.

First, you choose one of the 3 Ability Divisions of racing of which you will enter:

Schnell: means “fast.” Less experienced racers should consider this level

Blitz:  means “lightning” or “faster”

Über:  means “over everyone” or “fastest”

Figure the average mph you and your teammate will compete and decide if you are Schnell, Blitz or Uber. Below is the guide in terms of average speed for a 27 mile course. Please be accurate and fair in your selection. If in doubt... move up to the faster division. We don’t want to see Schnell teams whose times beat the winners in the Blitz categories!! Target your training effort to be competitive and help the event continue to be fun and fair for all. Here is a link that can help you to make an accurate prediction of your speed. click_here_to_see_the_mph_calculator

Second, you will choose the appropriate age and gender category within your ability division. If you are 35 now, but will turn 36 between now and Halloween, your “racing” age is registered as 36. Racing Age for the Team Time Trial categories is determined by the sum of both team members ages as of October 31st. For instance if a father and son team up and the dad’s racing age is 46 and the son’s is 15, (46 + 15 = 61) -- then they ride in the appropriate 60 - 69 aged category. You MUST ride within your aged group. You may not race in a younger group to be more competitive. To be more competitive... move into the next ability division (Blitz or Uber).

Third, write your category number down. You will need to know this category number when you go to active.com to register.
