Individual Time Trials are a competition. In our Individual Time Trial contestants are started 30 seconds apart and will race against the clock for awards. There are 3 overall divisions based on your level of expertise in racing. There are 30 different categories offered across the 3 divisions that take into account your age, gender and ability. The top times in each category will be recognized.

  • The start of the first rider off in the Individual Time Trial on Saturday has been moved up one hour from 3 pm to 2 pm (compared to last year) to allow built-in time block easements every 9 minutes

  • Time Trial Racers will be required to give an accurate prediction of their speed when they register so we can seed them by these times.

  • New Time Trial age, ability and gender groupings to match the latest competition demographics are in place

  • Participation limits in the ITT is set to ensure safety of all participants.

    • Registration opens Saturday, September 12th, 2009 –– at active.com. You will need to know the event category number above before you go to active.com.

    • Online Registration fees are $35 per entrant

    • Each team member entered online is guaranteed a collector’s commemorative t-shirt ($15 value) AND an admission ticket to Wurstfest (an $8 value, but we only have 1000 to give away)

    • Online Registration is the only form of registration accepted and it will close Friday, October 23, 2009 @ midnight or sooner if field limit is met.

    • All entrants will be required to sign an event specific liability release form at all packet pickups; therefore, you cannot pick up for your partner unless you have their Tour de Gruene ITT signed release form (which will be emailed to each person who registers).

    • Optional Packet Pick-up for pre-registered entrants will be hosted at Bike World 1604 in San Antonio on Thursday, October 29th from 6 to 9 pm.

    • Children under 18 (minors) must be registered by their adult legal guardian and submit our “Minor release form” signed by their legal guardian who must be present on event day.

    • All entrants must wear an ANSI, Snell or ASTM approved securely fastened helmet whenever you are on your bike at any time.

    • A rider does not need an annual USCF license, nor does he or she need to purchase a “one day” license to compete in the Tour de Gruene.

    • The race course is out and back on beautiful River Road

    • Tour de Gruene awards presented to top times in each category. Quantity awarded is dependant upon total entries in each category.

    • Around October 27th or sooner, your start times will be posted on this website. More about that to come.

  • First, you choose one of the 3 Ability Divisions of racing of which you will enter:

Schnell: means “fast.” Beginners should consider this level

    Blitz:  means “lightning” or “faster”

Über:  means “over everyone” or “fastest”

Figure the average mph you will compete and decide if you are Schnell, Blitz or Uber. Below is the guide for the 30 categories of the ITT in terms of average speed for a 16 mile course. Please be accurate and fair in your selection. If in doubt... move up to the faster division. We don’t want to see Schnell riders whose times beat the winners in the Blitz categories!! Target your training effort to be competitive and help the event continue to be fun and fair for all. Here is a link that can help you to make an accurate prediction of your speed. click here to see the mph calculator

Second, you will choose the appropriate age and gender category within your ability division. Your racing age is defined as your age on October 31st of this year. If you are 35 now, but will turn 36 between now and Halloween, register your “racing” age as 36. You MUST ride within your aged group. You may not race in a younger group to be more competitive. To be more competitive... move into the next ability division (Blitz or Uber).

Third, write your category number down. You will need to know this category number when you go to active.com to register.
